Social Golf (male)

Cardigan is slightly unusual in its approach to social golf, with relatively few regular 3/4 ball groups.  Most of the social golf is played in what is more commonly known as “roll-ups” but in Cardigan are known as “swindles”.  These are events where there is no need to pre-book a tee time, a draw for partners/teams taking place at the designated time.  So it does not matter if your plans change and you cannot make the time, or conversely unexpectedly can play.  If you are running a little late, simply ring the steward and your name will be put in the draw. To take part simply turn up before the time indicated and make yourself know to the organiser.

Swindles are friendly events with a competitive edge, off yellow tees, and happen in most weathers at the following times, except when there is a formal club competition or major event:

Monday 1100 – meet on the 1st tee, 3 or 4 ball teams, cost £1 – anywhere between 4 and 20 players, the best swindle to start off playing if you are a higher handicap new member

Tuesday 0930 – Seniors, meet in the changing room, cost £2 – up to 30 players, format varies each week

Wednesday 1230 (1200 in winter) – meet in main bar, 3 or 4 ball teams, cost £2 – up to 40 players, typically 25-30 – second choice for a higher handicap new member

Thursday 0930 – Seniors, as Tuesday – fewer numbers when there is a Seniors match

Saturday and Sunday 1230 (1200 in winter) – meet in main bar, 3 or 4 ball teams, cost £2, the most competitive of the swindles and often played off ¾ handicap –  regularly 30+ players
